Context
SC Holdings was evaluating an investment in an emerging European streetwear brand. Financial and commercial diligence could tell them how the business had performed. What it couldn't tell them was whether the brand's cultural position was real and durable.
Approach
We ran a market, brand and customer diligence alongside the firm's existing workstreams:
1. Sized the market and benchmarked the brand against competitors to establish where it genuinely stood in the category
2. Convened a panel of streetwear, retail and cultural experts to assess the authenticity of the brand's DNA, its approach to community-building, and how it was read by the audiences that matter
3. Tested cultural resonance market by market across Europe, identifying where the brand's position would carry and where it would need to be rebuilt
Result
The work confirmed the investor's core thesis that the brand's DNA was authentic, and its approach to innovation and community genuinely distinguished it. It also surfaced that cultural relevance did not transfer evenly across geographies, a material risk to the growth case.
We set out how to mitigate it through structured brand-building in each new market. Those findings fed directly into the firm's growth projections and its assessment of expected returns.
